Dear IRSA members
This year IRSA created an inaugural database of the IR fellows/advanced trainees in Australia and New Zealand. This gave us a snapshot of the future generation of IRs and allowed IRSA to invite
fellows to several workshops. These workshops were received well and highly praised. We would like to make sure all IR fellows/advanced trainees for 2017 have an opportunity to be invited.
IRSA would like to request members to forward the contact details (such as an email address) of their future IR fellows/advanced trainees for 2017 if they have any.
Please forward details to email@example.com by 2nd December 2017.

Chief Examiner EBIR Aus/NZ

It is with great pride that I announce the publication of Bill Clark’s Vertebropasty trial in The Lancet. Bill presented his study, one of the best designed randomised controlled trials on vertebroplasty in acute painful vertebral compression fractures, at CIRSE last week to a packed audience. This trial now provides Level 1 evidence for the efficacy of vertebroplasty for this indication, refuting some very negative press the procedure had received in recent years. The IRSA Executive and indeed the entire body of IRSA membership extend our warmest congratulations to Bill and his co-workers on this outstanding achievement.

IRSA is pleased to announce Associate Professor Kevin Bell is the 2016 recipient of the IRSA Gold Medal.
Kevin was the President of IRSA for 7 years from 2000 at a time of considerable change and he helped lay the groundwork for the further development of our Society as we know it today.
He studied Medicine at the University of Melbourne and trained in Radiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, completing his study in 1971.
Kevin became very active in Radiology affairs and he took a key role in the Economic Standing Committee of the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists. He became an advisor to the Victorian Government and the Commonwealth Government Departments of Health as they moved to establish the Medicare Schedule and develop fees for ultrasound, CT and later MRI.
Kevin was instrumental in establishment of DSA fees, operating theatre fees for Interventional Radiology (IR) procedures, and prosthetic fees for IR procedures.
